Richard Curtis presents ten loosely-connected short films, mostly set in London at Christmas, each of which notionally depicts different aspects of love. Some are better than others, and the degree of resemblance to human notions of love varies wildly. By my count, across the ten stories there’s three-and-a-half great ideas for a standalone romcom. I’d love to have seen each of those movies. Instead, we got this strange Frankenstein’s monster of a movie. I don’t hate it, but by no means is it especially good. Most importantly for the purposes of the List, it’s not really a Christmas movie: the Christmas setting is basically irrelevant to all but two of the ten stories, and a couple would even make more sense if it weren’t Christmas.
